# Bots overview

Bot types in Origami, the Bots page with its tabs, table, filters and bulk actions, and where to read a bot's error log.

A bot is a trading process that runs on one of your accounts on Origami's servers. The **Bots** page in the top navigation lists every bot in the current project and lets you start, stop, edit and delete them.

## Bot types

| Type | What it does | Where to read more |
| ------------------------- | -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- | ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ |
| **Custom bot** — Spot | Runs one or more **grids**: sets of formulas that decide the price, size and number of buy and sell orders on a spot pair. | [Spot grid bot](/bots/spot-bot.md), [What is a grid](/grids/what-is-a-grid.md) |
| **Custom bot** — Futures | The same grid engine on a perpetual futures pair, with margin mode, leverage and Long / Short positions. | [Futures grid bot](/bots/futures-bot.md) |
| **Lua bot** (closed beta) | Runs scripted strategies written in Lua — by hand, from a template or generated by the AI assistant. | [Lua bot](/bots/lua-bot.md) |

Custom bots are the core of Origami. Grids share one formula language across spot and futures; see [Grid language](/reference/grid-language.md) for the reference.

## The Bots page

The page has one tab per bot type: **Custom Bots** for grid bots, and **Lua Bots** when Lua bots are enabled for your host.

### Table

| Column       | Meaning                                                                                               |
| ------------ | ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- |
| **Bot** | Bot name. Click to open the bot. |
| **Type**     | **Spot** or **Futures**.                                                                              |
| **Account** | Account the bot trades on. |
| **Exchange** | Exchange of that account. |
| **Symbol**   | Trading pair, `BASE/COUNTER`.                                                                         |
| **Status** | **Active** (green) or **Stopped** (red). **Pending** (yellow) while a start or stop is being applied. |

Every column sorts by clicking its header. The search field matches name, account, symbol, exchange and type; the **Account**, **Exchange** and **Status** filters narrow the list further.

### Row actions

* Play / pause icon — start or stop the bot. Same as **Run** / **Stop** inside the bot.
* Pencil icon — open the bot's grids page.
* Menu — **Edit Bot**, **Error Log**, **Delete Bot**.

![Row menu of a bot: Edit Bot, Error Log, Delete Bot](https://602593284-files.gitbook.io/~/files/v0/b/gitbook-x-prod.appspot.com/o/spaces%2FDjboTEEPFNxFhKJ6msZi%2Fuploads%2FZkJI3HjsKjJedPNiPOIc%2Fbots-overview-02.png?alt=media)

### Bulk actions

Select bots with the checkboxes, then use **Start**, **Stop** or **Delete** in the toolbar. Each asks for confirmation: **Are you sure you want to start / stop / delete the selected bot(s)?**

**Add Bot** opens **Select Bot Type**. At the moment the only option is **Custom Bots → Create Custom Bot**, which leads to the [create form](/bots/spot-bot.md). Lua bots are created from their own tab with **New bot**.

## Error Log

![Errors Log window of a bot with no errors: No Error Logs Yet](https://602593284-files.gitbook.io/~/files/v0/b/gitbook-x-prod.appspot.com/o/spaces%2FDjboTEEPFNxFhKJ6msZi%2Fuploads%2FfByYwoFpn5Uu45HoiTo8%2Fbots-overview-03.png?alt=media)

**Error Log** in a bot's row menu opens **Errors Log** — the bot's error stream in real time. Each line has a timestamp, the grid number (`[Grid 3]`), the category, the order details when the error concerns an order (**Symbol**, **Price**, **Amount**, **Side**, **Position Side**) and the message with its level.

Typical entries are exchange rejections: size below the minimum, insufficient balance, price outside the allowed band, or a formula that returned an empty value. Fix the grid or the account and the bot retries on its next cycle; see [How a grid executes](/grids/how-a-grid-executes.md).

{% hint style="info" %}
A stopped bot shows no new errors. If **Errors Log** says **No Error Logs Yet** for a running bot that places nothing, check the [simulation](/bots/simulation.md) — a grid that evaluates to zero orders is not an error.
{% endhint %}

## Bots in the Terminal

The **Bots** widget in the [Terminal](/terminal/bots-and-variables.md) shows the same list and lets you start, pause and delete bots without leaving the trading screen. Editing a bot opens the grids page in a floating window.
